The Livermore Valley Educational Foundation (LVEF) is all about STRAIGHT A'S--academics, arts, and athletics. This threesome provides a strong education for Livermore students. We are a non-profit, tax-exempt public foundation established in 1991. Our Mission is simply stated. We are dedicated to restoring and enhancing academic and extra-curricular programs in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD).
We are an independent foundation that works closely with, but is separate from, the LVJUSD.
During the California budget crisis of 1991, LVEF organized to ease cuts to the LVJUSD high school sports programs and to music programs at all levels. Our first fund raising campaign did not completely restore these programs, but we were able to support them on a “no-frills” basis, helping the programs survive during the next several years.
After this critical period LVJUSD resumed principal funding of the programs, and the LVEF could then enhance these and other district programs. In its first eleven years, the LVEF provided over $630K for sports, $424K for music, and more than $160K in smaller grants for other programs such as drama.
The next budget crisis hit in 2002-2003. It threatened the class-size reduction (CSR) program in primary grades. District funding would provide CSR the following year at one grade only, first grade. In the spring of 2003, the LVEF and its donors provided $225K to keep CSR in grades K, 2, and 3. The following year, the LVEF had to raise even more more, in order to maintain 2nd grade CSR. This was a tough year. K and 3rd grade class sizes rose to 30. During the same period, LVEF provided over $36K to shore up computer tech. hours at all sites, and nearly $21K to retain part-time counselors at the high schools. In the fall of 2004 the first Livermore parcel tax passed, and it provided ongoing funding for many popular programs (including CSR) that had been the targets of LVEF fund raising.
Since 2004, the LVEF has enhanced a wide range of programs including science education and technology.
